The Secret of the Love of God

That which one yearns for, he loves, and this yearning makes Him great by transforming the depth of poverty in the yearning of His slave, his need and his longing to give Him everything, what his heart truly desires.
This yearning (al-himma) is the oil in the fire of God’s passion, which makes this fire in the heart of the lover grow very hot and strong and bright.

Listen only to the voice of God. Leave your father and mother from the body if they try to
keep you from walking in the way. Leave everyone who tells you that this is not the right way. Pray and sing. This singing is different from any song with music. This is the song of your heart.

Do not waste any time in this station. Say, “Help me, my God, I cannot do anything without You.” He will come to you. Open your heart, and listen to His voice all your time. Then He will take you between His hands, and there you will find peace and love. -MoS, pg. 48

At-Taslim: Surrender to God

If anyone wants to walk in the way and to live in the garden, then she must leave her body, her heart, and her soul, and be only with God, to be with Him face to face. You cannot go left or right. You must walk straight and speak to no one, only to God.

When you live in this station, you wonder how you lived before you found the way. Now you can know yourself, and you can change everything from the outside to the inside, and see no difference between the two.

Laila: the Deep Love

The Deep Love: al-‘ishq

The deep love (al-‘ishq) is the love that takes over the person, making the person blind to other than the Beloved. This love takes over the spirit and all of the limbs. It runs in the spirit like blood runs in the veins. It permeates all the joints; it is connected to his existence; it leaves no room for other. The attachment is to Him; speech and hearing are from Him and to Him. The lover sees Him in every image he sees.
